Daisy

A Speed Yellow childhood dream that arrived on an unrepeatable day.

I was still at the age when cars could not yet be driven, but they could already be dreamed of, when I first saw a Porsche 993 Speed Yellow.

It was 1994, and Porsche was beginning to market the 993 in Italy. I was just a boy, but I remember that moment perfectly: the shape, the colour, the very idea of that car. Above all, I remember running to a toy shop to buy the 1:18 scale Bburago model. Yellow, of course. Speed Yellow. That yellow so unmistakably Porsche, so bold and yet so right, capable of turning a 911 into an apparition.

02The yellow 993 existed in miniature long before it became real.

That model car is still on the bookshelf in my living room today. It is not just a childhood memory. It is a small material proof that certain desires never truly pass. They remain there, waiting. They change shape, mature, move into the background of life, but they do not disappear. And every time I look at it, it reminds me that, sometimes, a childhood dream really can become reality. I remember perfectly when that object became a desire. But I remember even better the day that desire became a real car.

September 9, 2025

It was September 9, 2025. I was in hospital, but for one of those rare reasons that transform a place normally associated with waiting and worry into a space of absolute joy. That day, my daughter, Margherita, was born. In English, Daisy. And on that very day, while life was giving me something infinitely greater than any automobile, she appeared among my search alerts: a yellow Porsche 993.

For some time, I had an active search on the portals. I was looking for a 993 Speed Yellow, but not just any one. It had to be right. Low mileage, an impeccable history, a configuration capable of giving back exactly the image I had kept with me for years. Until then, the perfect one had never appeared. There was always something that did not add up. A detail, a mileage figure, a story that was not clear enough.

Then, that day, it happened.

Of course, I stayed in hospital with my wife and our baby girl. But I found the time to call Davide Montani, navigator and companion in countless automotive adventures. I asked him to go and see it for me. I told him one simple thing: if it is really as described in the advert, leave the deposit. I will buy it as soon as possible, as soon as we are back home. Davide went to see it. Then he wrote to me.

"It is not like in the photos. It is even more beautiful. It takes your breath away."

In that moment, I thought it was a sign.

04The child I had been. The man I had become. The dream between them.

Usually, when a child is born and the family grows, one starts thinking in practical terms. People look at SUVs, minivans, generous luggage space, Isofix mounts, comfortable rear seats. Quite rightly, one enters a new phase of life, made of responsibility, protection, space, safety.

I, instead, in those very same hours, was buying a Porsche 993 Speed Yellow. From the outside, it might have seemed like a contradiction. Perhaps even madness. On the day I became a father, instead of choosing the most rational car in the world, I was pursuing the least rational and most desired car of my childhood.

But inside me, there was no contradiction at all.

There was a circle closing.

Because that 993 did not arrive against the birth of my daughter. It arrived together with her. And precisely because of that, it took on a different meaning. The car I had dreamed of as a child appeared on the day life was asking me to become an adult in the deepest possible way. As if time, for an instant, had decided to hold everything together: the child I had been, the man I had become, the father I was beginning to be.

In that moment, I understood something simple: growing up does not mean betraying what we once were. It does not mean turning off enthusiasm, filing away dreams, becoming greyer, more cautious, further away from ourselves. Perhaps growing up means learning to give those dreams a place. It means carrying them with us, protecting them, transforming them into memory, into story, into something that one day can be shared.

I had not grown old. I had simply grown up.

05Daisy is already part of Margherita's story.

And becoming a father, instead of extinguishing the child who had dreamed of that yellow 911, had brought him back into the light. Stronger, more aware, more grateful. Because that day I was not just buying a car. I was finding a part of myself again at the very moment a new one was being born, infinitely more important.

So I bought it. Not to satisfy a whim, but to close a circle. Because that car was not simply entering the collection: it was entering a story. The same story that began in 1994 in front of the window of a toy shop, continued for years on a bookshelf at home, and became real on the day Margherita was born.

That is why she is called Daisy.

She is not just a Porsche 993 Speed Yellow. She is the memory of a child who dreamed of a yellow 911, the testimony of a desire that remained faithful to itself, and the luminous sign of an unrepeatable day. Some cars arrive because you have searched for them. Others arrive when they are meant to arrive. Daisy arrived on September 9, 2025. And from that day on, she has no longer been only the 993 of my dreams: she has become part of our family memory.
